I took this photo a few months ago at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I had visited this exhibit several times to get people walking past the mural sized photographs to get their reaction. This particular day I had just started loading my Hasselblad with film which does take a little time. As I looked down the long gallery, in she came and I wasn't ready. So there I was fumbling with getting the film loaded in a rush. She was getting closer and now I have to take my light reading and focus - just as she passed between me and the Avedon photo I was able to get this shot off. I was surprised that she didn't hear the loud noise Hasses make when fired. I usually develop my film in the mornings at about 6am before breakfast and heading out to work. This time, I got home and rushed to my basement to load the film on the reel then into the tank to see if I got what I saw. I got to say, it's always the same for me - the thrill of unrolling the film from the reel after the photo flo wash and holding that wet negative to the light to see if I got it. Well here it is - I was happy. I will say however, that this is one of the rare times I wish I had captured an image in color as well. She was wearing a hot pink dress and the purse she is carrying was a bright yellow sparkling gold.
