Ft. Point Lighthouse, GGNRA. Fort Point is a pre-Civil War American brick fort, constructed as part of the coastal defenses to protect San Francisco. Initially set for demolition to make way for the Golden Gate Bridge, it was saved when Chief Engineer Strauss redesigned the bridge, preserving this significant historical site. The image
