I made these unassuming portraits during my travels. The man with the cigarette was made on the street in New York City last year. I saw his outfit, the tilt of his hat and the light on his face. I passed him by a few steps, but knew I had to get this portrait and then went back to capture this interesting persona. The lady that I photographed is a rancher in Florida. I was visiting her property to photograph horses, but she caught my eye. I saw the look of someone who had lived a lot of rural life, garbed in modern dress, with a touch of wind in her hair and made the portrait. The third portrait is a gentleman whom I came across while visiting China. I had been invited there by the Chinese government in 2007, as one of ten ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) to document the city of Rizhao. During my down time, I saw this gentleman sitting on a bench in the park and my camera caught him for posterity.

Dramatic with a nice strong contrastEach capture beautifully!
GREAT!
