While I usually stay away from Sunsets as cliche...every once in a while a special opportunity presents itself. I was driving back from a Photo NOLA in New Orleans through Mississippi back towards Florida when I noticed that the sunset was shaping up to be beautiful. At a stop light, I jumped out of the car, grabbed my tripod, had my (then) wife take the wheel of the car and I hurried towards the Gulf of Mexico a block or so away. When I got there, behind the Casinos, I first saw this pier, which I later learned was damaged by a Hurricane. Pelicans were flying in and perching on the exposed Pilons to rest for the night. I bracketed trying different speeds to find the correct one and then for the one pelican, flying in from the left of the image, I had just a slow enough exposure to see its wings in motion,...I believe that makes the image.
